  1. Burger King now has a signature scent, Flame.  That’s right – if you love to smell like whoppers then this is for you!   I seriously thought it was a joke (just check out the site and the sound effects), but then I realized that it is actually 100% real – and sold out!
  2. Sad news – Kodak might be getting ready to bite the dust!  They just had another kodakhuge round of layoffs and now they are discontinuing 401K matching shutting down all employee voice mail!  You know times are tough when people can’t leave a message!  I still actually shoot film so I hope things bounce back for them!
  3. Amazon did not turn a profit for the first four years of business!  They were founded in 1997 and their first profit turn of 1 cent per share was not reached until Q4 of 2001.  Last year, in 2007, their US profit alone was $14.8 Billion.  Maybe we need to use their early business model as a way to weather this tough economy.
]]> http://jamekaautry.com/blog/2008/12/random-monday-randomness/feed/ 0 { random } i *heart* apple http://jamekaautry.com/blog/2008/12/random-i-heart-apple/ http://jamekaautry.com/blog/2008/12/random-i-heart-apple/#comments Wed, 10 Dec 2008 04:04:04 +0000 jameka http://jamekaautry.com/blog/?p=533 Back in the summer of 2006 I converted over to Mac and I have never looked back.  Yes, it was an expensive transition.  And in those days I was totally broke, but I knew that it was truly an investment and I would be happy with my decision later.  And now, two and a half years later, I have a house full of apple products (including the iMac, time capsule, and oh-so-fab iPhone) and couldn’t be happier!  In fact, I get kind of annoyed when asked to work on a PC these days.  And now, just when I thought I couldn’t love Apple any more…. this week made me a true convert for life!

Why?

Well….for a few reasons.

I had an issue with my MacBook about three months ago and when the keyboard pallet got a tiny chip in the corner.  Luckily I purchased the apple care (3 years for under $200 – TOTALLY WORTH IT).  Took it in and it was replaced.  Free.  My invoice actually said $0.00.  Love it!

Then this past weekend my battery died.  And my charger was fried.  I knew this problem had been around the corner because my cable was totally beat up.  So what did I do – made an appointment for the Genius Bar.  Fifteen minutes later I walked out with a brand new battery and charger for nada.  Kinda feels weird walking out of a store with a bag full of goods without paying, but in Apple world that’s just a way of life :-)

Finally – my poor iPod Nano.  Well, two weeks ago I threw it in the washer with all of my gym clothes.  Somehow it made it into the dryer too.  Ooops! I just knew I wouldn’t get lucky for it to work again – especially since this is the second time I have done that.  (i know i know i know!) But I just laid it out to dry and a couple of days later I was back in action!  Now that’s a quality product!

So – what have I learned?

  1. Check pockets before doing laundry!
  2. Warranties CAN be worth it
  3. Apple totally ROCKS!
  4. I will *happily* never own a PC again ;-)
  5. If you read this story, skipped past all the links, and still want to stay with your PC – um…well…it’s Christmas and I’m going to be nice instead of naughty….
