So for everyone looking for posts and studio updates, I’m terribly sorry.  I haven’t had much time to blog on my blog because I’ve been doing double blog duty!  This year’s Me Fine Foundation Purse Gala has been turned up a notch with a blog featuring most of the purses that will be up for grabs in the live auction this Sunday!

In addition to fabulous purses, Greg Warren of the Pittsburgh Steelers wil be on hand to greet and sign autographs.  This year’s event is not just for women – we will have tons of men’s items too!  So, if you don’t have any plans and need to score some points by getting an autograph or two, head on down to The Cotton Room for desserts, drinks & some designer bags!  Plus, you will have a chance to win a free portrait session AND get a super cute bag – what could be better than that????

And don’t worry – you will still have time to make it back home for the big game!

Spice Street hosted the Wine Madness event and Amy Greene and her team did a fabulous job!  The food was amazing and every detail was perfect.  Kelcey Carlson from WRAL-TV was on hand to host the event and a local hero was also presented with an award.  There was also a silent auction and raffle with some very generous prizes ranging from vacations to sports memorabilia.  All in all it was a great event!

Dear Friends and Family,

On May 12th, I will go to Malawi, Africa, to begin a four-week oral history and participatory documentary project focusing on child-headed households created by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The epidemic continues to devastate social lattices, as families, communities, and an entire country must compensate for breakdowns in traditional structures. It is a crisis that heavily affects children. At the end of 2007, an estimated 91,000 children in Malawi were living with HIV. In a general population of about 13.5 million, almost one million children are living without one or both parents due to the virus.

Every hour, eight people in Malawi die of AIDS. The country’s rate of HIV prevalence is among the highest in the world. It is the leading cause of death among adults, and is a major factor in the country’s low life expectancy of just 43 years. HIV/AIDS, poverty, and recent famine have created a heightened vulnerability to preventable diseases, food insecurity, low literacy, trauma, and violence.

Through the help of providers from The Pendulum Project, the University of North Carolina, and others, I plan to facilitate a project that is both empowering for participants and valuable to providers and the public in Malawi and abroad. My goal is to raise awareness by honoring the voices, experiences, struggles, and triumphs of the Malawians I meet. Possible means of dissemination might be presentations, documentary works, and/or a website which will exhibit the project.

This work will consist of:

• Visits to homes, community-based programs, and clinics
• In-depth audio interviews with children, families, health workers, teachers, and others
• My photographs and video of participants
• Documentation by the children of their stories, through the use of disposable cameras

Now that I have my ticket, I need your help to raise an additional $3000 toward the remaining expenses of the project: local transportation, accommodation, food, cameras for the children, supplies, printing, interpreting, and gifts for participants (such as crayons and food staples).

Will you play a part in helping me address this crisis through your donation, in whatever amount that is meaningful to you? Please be assured that you can depend on me to use it responsibly.

Jane Goodridge was the big winner of a portrait session and I truly had a wonderful time meeting her and her family over the holidays.

Each year I put together a special display and package for Duke Children’s Teddy Bear Ball.  This year’s big auction winner was Celeste and it was a treat to spend time with her family in Carrboro.

Before I walked in I knew I was in for a treat.  There was some pretty great art on display in and outside of the house!

If you are looking for a new purse and a great way to give back to charity (all fully tax deductible – of course!), please consider coming out to the 3rd Annual Southern Ladies Purse Gala! It is a live auction of great designer purses filled with all sorts of goodies from The Umstead Hotel and Spa and other local vendors.  Last year’s purses were sooo cute – I had a lot of trouble staying focused on taking pictures!

Me Fine Foundation is a wonderful non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to children and families at the Duke Children’s Hospital and the North Carolina Children’s Hospital at UNC. I was lucky to become involved with Me Fine last year and consider it to be a true blessing to be associated with such caring people.

The big Purse Gala is this Sunday from 2 – 5 pm at the Embassy Suites in Cary.  Tickets are $45 each and seating is limited, but I will give two tickets to the first person to leave a comment below!
