The first time I ever heard the name Ami Vitale was at a Women in Photojournalism conference back in 2003. Some of the speakers were okay, but I remember hanging onto every word. Something she said touched a part of me so deep that I knew I wanted to take pictures. Her images, like her words, are pure and inspiring. Every time I see her work I go into a trance. I end up staring in awe wondering how she found such beautiful light in such a sobering environment.
She has an exhibit showing this month in Durham at Through This Lens Gallery. If you are heading over this weekend for Art Walk, take a few extra minutes to swing by and check out the exhibit!
